Jerome Valcke who is the FIFA’s Secretary General had a visit to the Arena de Sao Paulo which is located in Itaquera On Tuesday 22nd April. This is the stadium that will be hosting the opening match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup where Brazil, the hosting country will face Croatia.
This is one of the latest trips of Jerome although he is expected to also visit Fortaleza, Curitiba and Cuiaba in the course of this week. Valcke was accompanied by Aldo Rebelo who is the sports minister of Brazil and Ronaldo, one of the LOC members.
After meeting the local authorities, Valcke also tour the whole stadium. The FIFA Secretary General in his press release said that he had received all the updates concerning the work progress that is underway at the stadium.
He said that in deed the Arena Sao Paulo will be ready to host the much awaited opening match come 12th June. He said that on either May 17th or 18th, a test match will be played on this stadium and also crosscheck the structures.
He added that the test match that comes barely 3 weeks to the start of the World Cup will enable them tackle any concern as far as the stadium completion is concerned.
On the other hand, Aldo Rebelo, the Brazilian sports minister said that all focus should now be directed to the opening match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
He said that after visiting the stadiums neighborhood, he is sure that all that has been put in place will be of great benefits to the Itaquera residents. He said that the accident that happened is the one that brought delays in the completion of this stadium.
He said that this has been settled by putting up temporary structures. Ronaldo LOC member said that he is happy with the progress works at the stadium and thanks Andres who is the Corinthians former president.
The other dignitaries that were present at the meeting were Nadia Campeao, Deputy Mayor of Sao Paulo, Julio Semeghini who is the planning and development secretary of Sao Paulo state.
