When Honduras lost 2-0 to Turkey during the friendly match that was played on Thursday this week, Luis Fernando Suarez is now aware that his men are not yet ready for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
This was the hardest way in which the Honduras manager learned as far as leading his team in the upcoming summer tournament to be held in Brazil. It is a worrying performance since Honduras have less time to improve before their opening match on 15th June when they face France.
During an interview, Suarez admitted that there was much to be done if his team is determined to perform well in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Suarez said that it was true some of his players were not yet fit and they have to work hard for the matches that are ahead of them.
Turkey did not qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup after failing to outsmart their opponents. In the friendly match where Honduras played Turkey, Mevlut Erdinc netted for Turkey in the 70th minute and assisted Caner Erkin in the 83 minute to score a second goal.
Honduras had many opportunities during the first half of the match but squandered them. The Honduras coach said that his team performed well in the first half although they were unable to utilize the chances they had. Suarez says that in the second half they had poor ball possession.
He however says that it is an issue they can work on and make the necessary corrections as they prepare for the world cup that is just 2 weeks from today. Honduras has two friendly matches before the 2014 FIFA World Cup, one against Israel on Sunday and the other against England on 7th June.
This is the third time Honduras are qualifying for the world cup and a placed in group E with France, Ecuador and Switzerland. Suarez adds that the defeat won’t affect them mentally as they prepare for the global event and insisted that they have to work more on their physical part.
