We are just about 44 days to the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. All the 32 national teams that will be participating in the World Cup this summer have less than a month to submit their 23 man squad list to the required authorities.
As other player are hopeful to win a chance in their national team squad for this year’s world cup, Erik Pieters is very pessimistic about winning a chance into Netherlands squad.
Pieters who today is Stoke City’s left back has won a total of 17 caps for his mother country was never included in the qualification campaign. Neither has he received a call from Louis van Gaal from the time he joined Stoke city after leaving PSV Eindhoven.
Pieter who is now 25 years old has been in the limelight of his club Stoke City more so this season but not at all does he expect the recognition of his contribution in the 2014 FIFA World Cup to be held in Brazil.
It has however been shown that there is still some uncertainty when it comes to the left back first choice of Netherlands. This however does not at all change Pieters as he is very sure he won’t be part of Van Gaal’s squad.
When talking to Voetbal International, Pieters said that in the 9 months he has been in the premier League he has not received any form of communication or even invitation from the Holland’s coach.
He therefore says that he does not even exist in Gaal’s plans. Pieters however says that he made a participation in the Asian trip where they played against China and Indonesia at the end of the last season.
He also adds that the left back first option is Daley Blind and the likes of Patrick van Aanholt and Bruno Martins Indi have greater chances that him.
He further confirmed that he plays weekly for Stoke city something that very many people don’t know. Erik Pieters believes that it is required of some to fit in in order to be in the squad for the World Cup.
