The England player Rickie Lambert is not for any reason afraid of putting his penalty skills to test in the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. From their previous history, England national team has had a worst penalty record as far as the world football is concerned.
With over 10 tournaments that they ended up in penalties, England have been able to secure victory only once and that was during the 1996 Euro Championships when they faced Spain.
With less than 20 days to the start of the summer tournament, England are at least sure of one person who can be able to offer a helping hand wherever their matches end up in penalty shootings. I am talking about Rickie Lambert who the team has expressed confidence in his penalty shooting ability.
The Southampton player to date has scored a total of 34 penalties for his club. These are all the penalty he has played meaning that he has never lost any penalty. In all his football career, Lambert has been able to miss only to penalties and one being the one for Bristol Rover some years ago.
Lots of pressure seem to be on Lambert as far as representing England in penalty shooting is concerned. However, the England striker says that he do believe in his shooting ability and is very sure that he will take one come what may.
He said that he is confident not to lose the penalty wherever an opportunity like that arises. The likes of Leighton Baines, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney have been able to prove their penalty skills though they records can’t be compared to that of Lambert.
Lambert said that it won’t be possible for him to teach his teammates on the tips to near his standards. The 32 years old superstar said that his techniques were totally different and won’t be used by any other player.
He said that the penalty always involve one’s mentality. Lambert also do have a total of 16 own goals in a total of 35 appearances plus 12 assist goals.
