After being named as England’s number nine player by Roy Hodgson, Daniel Sturridge has said that he absolutely not under pressure. Sturridge was awarded the number nine shirt to which he will be representing England in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Sturridge will have to follow the spirit of Sir Booby and Alan Shearer who wore the number nine shirt and led England to latter stages of the World Cup in the past years.
With 21 goals in the Barclays Premier League and 10 caps for his country, the Liverpool striker is much relaxed as far playing for England in the upcoming summer tournament in Brazil. When being interviewed, Sturridge said that he is well prepared for the role he has been given by the England boss, Roy Hodgson.
He said that he feels very much relaxed with no pressure on him. Sturridge has scored in the games they played against Denmark, Montenegro and San Marino. Sturridge said that his dreams have come true and this is the moment he has been waiting for. It will be the first world cup ever for Sturridge to be part of it. He said that during the world cup, nothing will change as he will play just his normal game.
In the last season, Daniel Sturridge was nursing an injury that made him miss the big part of the season together with Wayne Rooney. However, the England boss is hopeful that the duo player will be fit to play in the friendly match of England vs. Peru that is scheduled to be played on this coming Friday.
England has scheduled several friendly matches before the world cup as part of the final preparations of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In a total of 34 appearances, Daniel Sturridge has been able to net 27 times with a total of 7 assist goals.
However, Hodgson has also the option of combining the trio Rooney, Sturridge and Welbeck to have an attack of three men. Welbeck who plays for Manchester United is focused to prove his worthiness during the summer tournament.
