Dejan Lovren who is the defender at St Mary’s and Nikica Jelavic, the Hull City striker both secured a place into the 30 man provisional squad of Croatia for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The national teams that qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup are in the final preparation of their teams ahead of the 2nd June deadline to which they have to submit the final 23 man squad to FIFA. This is the patch that has been taken by Croatia.
After moving from Everton to KC stadium, Jelavic seem to have increased their chances that enabled him secure a place into the provisional squad. While at Everton, Jelavic did not play regularly hence made a decision to exit Everton in January this year.
Nico Kranjcar who plays for QPR is also on the list as one of the British based football layers. From the premier league, Vedran Corluka the defender at Manchester City and Eduardo the former striker at Arsenal but currently playing for Shakhtar Donetsk have made it into Niko Kovac’s squad.
The Croatian Boss will have to drop 7 players from his provisional squad before submitting the final 23 man list on 2nd June. The provisional squad consists of three goalkeepers namely Oliver Zelenika, Stipe Pletikosa and Danijel Subasic.
There is a total of 9 defenders and 11 midfielders. The players selected in the strikers’ position are seven and include Ivica Olic, Mario Mandzukic, Eduardo da Silva, Duje Cop, Nikica Jelavic, Ivo Ilicevic and finally Ante Rebic.
Croatia at the world cup are placed in Group A with the hosting country Brazil, Cameroon and Mexico. Though this is a tough group, Croatia are expected to perform well in the upcoming summer tournament.
With Mario Mandzukic who plays for Bayern Munich and Luka Modric the midfielder of Real Madrid all seem to be well with Croatia.
