It is now confirmed that Cesare Prandelli will be leading Italy in the next 2 years. The Italy boss signed a contract extension which will see him lead Italy into the 2016 UEFA Euro. Prandelli now can full direct his attention to the 2014 FIFA World Cup as he is done with the signing of the contract.
The coach who is now 56 years old was awarded this extension by the Italian Football Federation due the work and goals he has achieved for the Italy national team. All these signing were done on Monday 26th May.
During a press conference held on Monday, Prandelli said that all the agreements were already in the pipeline as early as two months ago and what could have consumed heir time was the contract formulation processes.
Prandelli said that the delays were caused by the fact that the federation wanted to make an inclusion of his image rights into the contract. With the 2014 FIFA World Cup just a few days to its kickoff, Prandelli is yet to unveil the final 23 man Italy squad but still has a week to do so.
This is according to the deadline given by FIFA for the submission of the final squad that is 2nd June. Italy is in the same group as Uruguay, England and Costa Rica. They will have their opening match against England on 14th June in Manaus City.
When Prandelli was asked for the reason of the delayed naming of the 23 man squad, he said that the coming four days will be crucial as they are meant to have a proper understanding of the players who are fit and reliable for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Prandelli said that the final squad will be named after the scheduled Saturday friendly match that they will play against Ireland.
He also said that his team must be at the top most condition before the start of the world cup so as to give their opponents a very hard tie. He insists that his players must always be flexible more so in their tactical approach.
