Paulo Bento who is the manager of Portugal unveiled the squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup which consisted of only two players from Benfica team.
Ruben Amorim who plays in the midfield position and Andre Ameida who plays as a defender were the ones who featured in the 23 man squad of Portugal for the upcoming summer tournament.
Real Madrid produce a total of three players into Bento’s squad and they include Talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe and Fabio Coentrao. The Portuguese League produced a total of 8 players into Portugal’s squad.
The other players who came from domestic leagues include Eduardo who plays for Braga, Rui Patricio a player of Sporting Lisbon, rafanad William who are midfielders and Silvestre Varela plus Eder who play in the forward positions.
Joao Moutinho, Raul Mireles and Miguel Veloso are the players who are expected to pull great surprises in the midfield during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. From the Barclays Premier League, Nani is the only selected player in Bento’s final 23 man squad that was announced in Lisbon.
After unveiling the provisional 30 man squad, the Portugal boss had to axe seven players so as to meet the set number by FIFA. Those players who missed out of the final squad but were in the provisional one include: Ricardo Quaresma, Vitorino Antunes, Anthony Lopes, Rolando, Joao Mario, Andre Gomes and finally Ivan Cavaleiro who is a forward player of Benfica.
The Portugal’s final squad now consists of 3 goalkeepers, 7 defenders, a total of 6 midfielders and finally 7 forward players. Portugal are place in group G together with Ghana, Germany and United States.
Bento’s men will begin the 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign on June 16th when they face Germany in Salvador City stadium. Bento is very much determined to have his team perform well in the upcoming summer tournament. All eyes on 16th June, their opening match.
